Weird Flex: Kylie Jenner’s The Grinch Christmas Makeup
Christmas is right around the corner and already shops and houses are getting ready for the season. Christmas movies are coming on the TV and Netflix and Hulu have special sections devoted to holiday movies. One of my favorite holiday movies is the original cartoon version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. (The one with Jim Carrey just isn’t as good. Tell me I’m wrong in the comments.)
You can imagine my shock and confusion when I saw Kylie Jenner’s new line of official Grinch makeup: Kylie Cosmetics x The Grinch Collection. Before I get into this a little further if you haven’t seen Kylie Jenner’s The Grinch Christmas Makeup, well here it is.
Kylie Jenner’s The Grinch Christmas Makeup
The Grinch Collection is a collaboration with Dr. Seuss’s literary estate. This collection comes stacked up with 19 different products: a 16-shade eye shadow palette, a set of lipsticks, one matte-lip kit, four eyeshadow sticks, a powder blush, a powder highlighter, two shimmer eye glazes, two lip glosses, and one liquid eyeliner. The products range in price from $16 to $60, and the whole set is available for $265. You can also pay a little extra to get a full PR box that comes with a mailer and descriptions of the products much like the ones you see influencers unboxing on YouTube. If you love The grinch this is the ultimate Christmas makeup collection.
Kylie Cosmetic’s First Collaboration
All of this aside, does anyone else find it a little weird that Kylie Jenner chose The grinch for the theme of her Christmas makeup collection? Kylie Cosmetics has never done an officially licensed collection before or even a collaboration with anyone outside the Kardashian family.
Trust me, we’re not complaining but it sort of feels like a very weird flex and we didn’t see this coming from Kylie Cosmetics.
Why The Grinch?
When journalists asked this question to the company they said there is a pretty simple answer. Kylie Jenner just really loves The Grinch. “I have so many memories of reading How The Grinch Stole Christmas every year during the holidays and now my daughter loves it,” Jenner says in a statement provided to Allure. “There are so many great colors and shapes to play up with the theme.”
