Lorde’s New Album – ‘Solar Power’ – is the Soundtrack of Summer 2021

The wait is finally almost over. We’ve been waiting since 2017 for Lorde to release a follow-up album to the critically acclaimed Melodrama. The New Zealand singer-songwriter is making a comeback this summer with a new album. Whether you’re a die-hard Lorde fan that has cried their heart out to ‘Liability’ or a partygoer who has danced the night away to ‘Green Light’, you want to be on the lookout for the hottest album of the summer. Read on to find out all the gossip about Lorde’s new album ‘Solar Power’ before its August release date.

A Bumpy Release

While we have to wait until August 20th to get the full ‘Solar Power’ album, the title single is already on repeat on our Spotify.  Solar Power is at 14.5m views on YouTube and climbing in less than two weeks.

Can you reach me? No – you can’t!” is going to be our go-to Instagram caption for summer.

The first single from the album didn’t have a smooth release. It was the subject of several leaks, including the single art and snippets of the song. ‘Solar Power’ was originally scheduled to be released on Summer Solstice (June 21st) but dropped on June 10th due to the leaks.

The leaks of Solar Power weren’t the only problem that Lorde faced for the single. It seems fans were able to stream the single earlier in certain regions, leading to it being pulled from Apple Music.

Hopefully, the rest of the album’s release goes to plan.

What We Know So Far About Lorde’s New Album ‘Solar Power’

We first found out about this new album when Lorde sent an update to her newsletter subscribers saying she was “going back to the studio again”. She gave us our first hints about what the album will sound like by saying she was making “happy, playful” music that she described as “so fu*king good”.

After losing summer 2020 to the pandemic, we’re more than ready to get our hands on this album.

We’ve already spotted some hints to the inspiration behind ‘Solar Power’. In 2020, Lorde took a trip to Antarctica, which led to ‘Going South’her 100-page photo book. During another fan newsletter email, Lorde said that the trip made her realize that “my brain had been craving… a visit to an alternate realm”. As she originally planned for the first single to come out on Summer Solstice, we’re guessing the season is the main inspiration behind Lorde’s new album.

Collaborators And Release Date

We already know that Jack Antonoff was in the studio with Lorde, thanks to another email sent in May. Die-hard Lorde fans will know Jack from his work on Melodrama. He also co-wrote and co-produced songs for Lana Del Rey’s ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ and the last three Taylor Swift albums.

Mark your calendars – the Solar Power album is hitting streaming services on August 20th.

As a teaser, here’s the official track-list:
